How do I get an App-Specific Password?

To create an App-Specific Password:

1. Go to appleid.apple.com
2. Sign in with your Apple ID
3. Navigate to "Sign-In and Security"
4. Click "App-Specific Passwords"
5. Click the + button to generate a new password
6. Name it "Pear" and copy the password

Note: You need Two-Factor Authentication enabled on your Apple ID.

Why do you need my Apple credentials?

Pear uses CalDAV and CardDAV protocols for Calendar, Reminders, and Contacts, and IMAP/SMTP for iCloud Mail, to securely access your iCloud data. We never see your main Apple password - only the app-specific password, which you can revoke anytime from your Apple ID settings. Your credentials are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before storage.

Is my data secure?

Yes. Provider credentials are encrypted with AES-256-GCM and stored securely. For Apple, we never store your actual Apple ID password - only the app-specific password that can be revoked at any time from Apple ID settings. For Microsoft 365, Pear uses OAuth and never asks for your Microsoft password. Pear does not keep a separate database copy of your provider content, and it retains only minimal metadata for billing, analytics, and the optional Activity page.

Pear provides the MCP tool layer; the best assistant depends on where you want the mail, calendar, and task decisions to happen.

Yes. Pear exposes Mail, Calendar, Tasks/Reminders, Contacts, scheduling, and batch workflows through MCP. Supported clients can search mail, draft or send messages, create and update events, find free time, create tasks, and look up contacts. The client still controls confirmations and permissions, especially for write actions.

Does Pear support Microsoft 365, Google, and custom IMAP email?

Pear supports Apple iCloud and Microsoft 365 provider suites today. Google Calendar, Gmail, Google Tasks, and Google Contacts are built into the provider roadmap and are marked as coming soon until public verification is ready. Custom IMAP mailbox support is also planned for users who want Pear Mail workflows outside iCloud, Outlook, or Gmail.

The AI only accesses data when you explicitly ask it to. Pro users can view tool-call activity metadata in the dashboard.

How are reminders managed?

Pear reads and creates reminders through Apple's CalDAV layer rather than the newer private Reminders stack. In practice, reminders still work, but what Pear sees may not always match Apple's native Reminders app exactly.

The safest expectation is to treat reminders as Apple account-level task data rather than a perfect mirror of the native Reminders app.

Yes. Once you've set up your account and connected Apple iCloud or Microsoft 365, you can use Pear entirely through Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, or any other compatible MCP client. The dashboard is optional - it's there to provide a visual interface and easier management, but MCP tools work directly through the hosted endpoint.
